Oh dear - not a day to remember for the large travelling support. The unfortunate Peter Featherstone conceded an own goal after 81 secs but we turned round 2-1 up thanks to JP Collier's penalty and a lovely free-kick from Danny Beszant. When Lingfield were reduced to ten men early in the second half for a bad arm-led challenge on John Sinclair we should have taken control but Lingfield got another fortunate equaliser after some uncertain defending and a couple of ricochets. We just lacked a spark today, probably tried to over-play on a horrible pitch and in a gale-force wind but we shouldn't have lost. Six minutes from time Liam Baitup's shot rebounded off the post and into the keeper's arms. He punted it upfield, Drew Cooney and Danny Harwood in goal seemed to hesitate and their No.14 nipped in and was fouled by Danny. He was sent off and Craig Lardent's first task was to pick the ball out of the net. You would have thought Lingfield had won the World Cup given their OTT celebrations but when they went down to ten men they had a cause to rally round and you can't argue that they worked hard for their unlikely win. We didn't work their keeper enough - was our performance a reaction to extra time at Hailsham on Tues? Perhaps. Have to say TB and the bench kept their cool today and as a club official I'll leave it to others who were there to offer their opinions on what went on. Onwards and upwards. Redhill (a) on Tuesday - a side who will at least try and play some football.

I had the misfortune to hear the pre match Lingfield team talk. His last words to his team were lets beat these Fxxkin Cxxts. As the saying goes every Village has one. Well Dixie Dean is Lingfields. In the second half we did not pass the ball and we were unable to keep possession. Annoyed by the result. Went on the nomad website unable to fathom out how to post. Mr Grinstead the question we all want answering is Why are some clubs allowed in Div 1 of the County League. The only people who can answer this is the Sussex County League. You cannot blame Lingfield, it is the league who should be blamed. Lingfield benifit by the leagues inability to implement their own ground grading rules. One of my bugbears, a well run club like East Grinstead in the same league as a mickey mouse club like Lingfield. Rant over

Regretably people like this aren't confined to the county league and they are unable to confine their language to the dressing room. Why people feel that language like this somehow boosts motivation is beyond me. Sounds like its best not to think about this game for too long. Bad day at the office. Move on

Really dissapointing result yesterday. Having been 2-1 up and with a man advantage we should have had more than enough to comfortably win the game but going down to 10 men seemed to galvanise Lingfiled and have the opposite affect on us.
Lingfield were a very limited side, big and physical but were up for the fight, sometimes literally and Grinstead couldn't rise above this in difficult conditions and too many players went missing particulary in the last half hour.
Anyone would have thought they had won the league with their post match celebrations and the continuous bad language from their bench was totally unnessecary. However some credit must go to Lingfield for the hard work and effort they produced over the 90 minutes.
Also £1 for a programme, four pages, which had a team sheet, league table and a couple of paragraphs from the manager, which took less than 30 seconds to read.

Saturday was one to forget, no doubt about that but let's not get carried away by one result. Bad day at the office, move on. It was a terrible pitch and awful conditions but we at least tried to play. Rather that than resorting to long hopefull high ball rubbish. It wasn't to be and we're all bitterly disappointed with the result but it's gone and we look forward to tomorrow night and an opportunity to put it right.
